Product Description
The V-42 was designed in part by the Commanding Officer of the First Special Service Force, The Devil's Bridgade; Lt. Colonel Robert T. Frederick. The knife was designed and constructed with the sole purpose of battle in mind. This knife was the trademark weapon of the Devil's Brigade, and its members were trained extensively in the use of the V-42. Our historically accurate replica features a stacked leather handle like the original, as to be easily handled in cold weather. Each dagger offers a razor-sharp, double-edged stiletto blade that pierces through even tough materials with ease. Thumb notches are cast into the handle above the guard to keep the knife from slipping when wet or wearing gloves.
The V-42 is a high quality reproduction of an excellent commando blade! It is balanced and fits well in the hand.

Excellent reproduction
This is a great knife for the price, nicely balanced, light weight, good craftsmanship and decent quality steel blade. It would do the job if needed.

Great Reproduction
This Dagger is a great reproduction of the original Case Dagger from WWII
Not quite "Razor Sharp" but it is sharp(ish), and VERY "Pointy"
Got it with the "BOGO" so it is well worth the $12.50

BOGO great purchase
Well I had wanted to get one of these for a while. Then one day they were offered as a buy one get one free. I wish I had ordered two and that would have got me four. These are beautiful, great leather handles, black finish, and sharp. Every time I get back here I check them and see if they are BOGO again. Don't miss out on this great reproduction.

Very Nice
Well designed. Really liked it and was worth the money, but it's a shame it wasn't made of gun steel or high carbon steel. I still like it though.

V42 Stilletto
I purchased to use and wear with my uniform that way I could save my commemorative one, the only difference is the sheath as it is not reinforced and is not the drop down model. The blade has a needle-sharp tip and a decently fine edge, which-after a few passes with a wet stone- becomes sharp. I'm not exaggerating when I say you could shave with this dagger. The blade is firmly anchored in the grip and it sits well in the hand. Overall, I am extremely impressed with the overall quality of this dagger. For the price you can't find a nicer piece that rolls old-world style with a functional nature that can stand up to the rigors of modern work.

An attractive and functional replica
I recently purchased this replica V42 dagger. My original intention was to add it to my militaria collection but upon familiarizing myself with it, it has become my newest workhorse knife. Firstly, the dagger is rock-solid right out of the packaging. The blade has a needle-sharp tip and a decently fine edge, which-after a few passes with a whetstone- becomes WICKEDLY sharp. I'm not exaggerating when I say you could shave with this dagger. The blade is firmly anchored in the grip and it sits well in the hand. My one "complaint" is that the skullcracker pommel was loose, but that was nothing a little elbow grease and cold-weld couldn't remedy. Overall, I am extremely impressed with the overall quality of this dagger. For the price you can't find a nicer piece that rolls old-world style with a functional nature that can stand up to the rigors of modern work. Do yourself a favor- buy yourself this little darlin' and sharpen it up. You won't be disappointed!

Best CHEAP V42 replica
For a V-42 this is the best cheap replica out there. NO it is NOT a perfect reproduction. The biggest difference is the sheath. It is a cheap one not made to be like the original at all. The leather handle is not a true stacked washer handle but looks close. But for a shadow box or just to use anywhere this is a great knife. It even has FSSF and V-42 stamped on it. If you want an exact replica like the FSSF used get the real expensive one made by Paul Chen. Unfortunately that one is not available through BudK.

Love this knife
I was surprised and very pleased with the knife. Excellent training tool and pretty prototypic for a reproduction. The sheath however had to have been an afterthought. Cheap, well okay, for a cheap repro at least it comes with a sheath I guess, but it's a loose, oversize rattled, poor fitting mess.

Slightly disappointed
Got two for the price of one very sturdy knives except for the hilt on one is loose otherwise great knives feels good in the palm and the temple cracker is vicious as any I've encountered

Pointy!!!
I needed this knife to stab crows/ ravens thru a net trap that I have. I like the very narrow blade. the cons are that the leather rings are free spinning; however, with a little gorilla glue, one fix this issue. The blade looks and feels sturdy but not very sharp, that is OK for me, because I do not want to damage my nylon netting on my trap. I really like the knife and it is definitely worth the price.

V-42 dagger. Kind of disappointed
Initially when I opened the package I was pleased with the knife. It comes with a better than expected sheath and overall the knife looks good. The stacked leather handle fits securely in your hand and conforms to your grip nicely. The only problem that I can see is that the blade and the handle are not in alignment. While not off drastically, it still is an obvious flaw that once you notice it, you keep noticing it. I know that this is not an expensive knife, and these days you'd have to spend the same amount at other sites on just a decent sheath, so I'm keeping the knife but I'm afraid that is going to be demoted from my newest collectible into filling the job position of my newest letter opener.

Meh....
Its a 13 dollar blade, so expecting something that is SOG or Ontario quality is expecting way too much. But it is a sharp blade, good for a "get home bag" in the trunk, or even something to stash about the house somewhere. It feels ok in the hand, and would probably not hold up well to extended use. I do feel it is worth 13 bucks though.

v-42 stiletto
nice sharp blade, handle however wiggled and turned a lot have to figure out a way to stop it, and the sheath it comes with gets the job done of holding it but i think the could have done a little better all and all price and how it is, its not that bad

Disappointed
From reading other reviews, this V42 Military Stiletto is definitely a "your mileage may vary" item, It's obvious the manufacturing quality control is lacking or nonexistent. You either get a really good one or a sloppy one. The one I received falls in the latter group. The handle was as loose as a goose! The end cap was tightened down as far as it would go, but the handle and guard were still so loose they rattled. I was able to tighten it up by adding a couple leather "spacers" to the end of the stacked handle. The spiked end cap is some kind of softer cast metal so be careful when threading it off and on or the steel threads on the tang will strip the shallow threads in the end cap. The good aspects of the knife are that it has a VERY sharp fine point, and the blade and tang shaft are one piece. Unlike the M1918 which has the blade spot welded to the tang shaft. The knife does have decent accurate details including thumb ridges on the hilt of the blade like the original. The leather handle and sheath are decent - okay quality. Bottom line, NOT worth the $20 price tag, and I don't expect much for $20! lol I missed the promotional BOGO and paid regular price. Knife will be okay for display or collecting with limited handling, but not something to expect to use even occassionally...I wouldn't trust my life with it! It's a cool knife with historical significance, so I hope the quality improves.

Not what I expected
I order the BOGO (buy one, get one free) package and examined the daggers when they arrived. One was OK, the second one fell apart in my hands. Both were returned for a refund.

Not impressed
I ordered 5 items from Budk and this was the only let down. I'm a fan of the V-42 and this appeared to be a d**n good deal on a decent enough knife. Look - I realize I'm buying a knife for less than $13 so I'm not expecting miracles but what I got hardly resembles the pic. My main problems are these - the blade does not sit flush on the quillion, the handle - whatever it is made of - spins and is not secure ie. if I held the handle firmly I could twist the blade (carefully, it is sharp however ha ha), and finally - the skullcrusher doesn't sit flush on the handle. In the space between the handle and skullcrusher there is some glue. Bummer.
