Product Description
This medieval design is quickly recognized as the preferred sword of the Norsemen who terrorized Europe for nearly 400 years. This historical replica features a 30" polished, high carbon steel blade with a heavy blood groove. The authentic styled handle offers a wooden grip with imitation leather wrap and a solid brass guard and pommel. This historical replica is perfect for historical reenactments, costumes and theatrical productions.
I am happy with it. If you're looking for a sword for heavy combat, then not the sword for you. But if you're looking for a sword for your viking garb, and training, or light combat then this is a great sword for a great price.

Combat Ready???
So I see alot of people saying this sword isent combat ready so bought 2. 1 for me and 1 for my sparring partner. After an hour of combat sword hitting sword and shield surprisingly the swords are still togather but one of the handles has a crack in it. Yes this is a display sword so your not going to try storming a castel with this sword but if you want sturdy sword for youtube videos and stage combat this might be a good choice.

Freaking awesome sword
I just received this sword for my birthday and am blown away by it. It is absolutely fantastic everything I was hoping it would be a steel of a deal.

Works for me!
The Norseman Viking long sword is what I was looking for and serves my purpose well. I did not expect Harald Fairhair's actual sword, this one is good. The scabbard is as tight as my dad's wallet on allowance day, but that is ok. I was very happy with the price, the delivery time (Three days ahead of schedule), and the sword. It is straight and tight, and fairly represents a viking sword! Done deal and thanks BudK!

Great
This is an excellent sword, does not come sharp. Made of High Carbon Teel, which is SO much better than stainless for a sword ( less brittle ).

For the money, it's great!
This is a nice (non combat) sword... It's a deal at 35$ The scabbard on mine cracked slightly when I first inserted the sword, but otherwise, it's fine. I'm keeping mine nice and oily, assuming it's actually steel and not stainless. Fun to swing a little bit, just don't hit anything!

slight variations
Handle is diffrent for sure
And the scabbardisnt rounded to fit with the blade hilt
Sure don't match the pictures

Great!
I ordered this sword based on reviews and I agree that the scabbard is pretty crappy. Oh well. I'm not going to hang it on my wall in the scabbard anyway. My sword was very well made though, and for $35 you can't go wrong. Might make my own scabbard for it if I want it as a costume piece. I plan on ordering another one at some point and displaying them together with my sons' names engraved on the blades. The fact that there is no edge on the blade doesn't bother me at all since they are for display and I have small kids. I have other swords with sharp edges to play around with that are put away. Really nice looking and worth the money. I'm sure you could tinker with it and make a functional blade out of it and if you screw up, it's not like you're out a lot of money.

Folks, if you are paying less than 200 for your swords you will most definatly not be able to use them in combat or against any hard surface such as wood or metal or stone etc you will break it, this site is good for decorative weapons only!

much better than I expected
I give this sword 5 stars, its much better than it looks in the photo, very solid construction, it came dull but if youre into swords and knives you should have at least a good diamond file, I havnt put this to any great test of stregnth because I want to keep it in good shape but swinging it and chopping a bit of brush went just fine, i would definately recomend this sword and Im not just saying that either, if I dont like something I say it, I would consider buying another one of these especially if theres a sale.

Quality, Weight and Balance is amazing at this price, just that the handle can add more cushion as it a little uncomfortable swing due to the weight and thin side of the handle. Also will be better if seller will sharpen it more

Fantastic!
This sword came a day earlier than scheduled and even the amount of time I waited beforehand was worth it! The sword is nice, heavy and sturdy just how I wanted it. And even though it had a rounded edge, I tested its cutting power by using it on the package it came in, bubble wrap and all, and it cleaved right through! A barbaric yet effective cut if there ever was one! My Nordic Ancestors would be proud! Thanks budk for an amazing product. Well worth the money! As previous reviews indicated, this is the best sword under $100. If you got the money and you're thinking of buying it, buy it! You won't be disappointed!

Nice, Classic Sword
This sword,in a word,is NICE. Oddly it was the only sword I have ever recieved by US Mail rather than by UPS,but I guess it doesn't matter. The sword itself was sturdy, had a good feel, looked neat, but was heavier than I expected. Since it is carbon steel I expect it will probably start rusting after a year but a little rust remover will take care of that. Only problem is the picture has three bumps on the handel that were no where on the actual sword. I don't really mind but the product should come as pictured in my opinion!

The only thing I didnt like about this sword is it came unsharpened but overall its EXELLENT!! even the sheath is a good quality for my tastes and my sword has exellent balance and feels...right in my hand like it was MADE for me. Recommend for a good battlesword or costume as well as a stage attire piece for plays.

Best sword for under 100$
This sword is great, solid fell to it; I can tap it aganist a tree and hear no rattling. it has a thick blade, not sharpened at all. The handle is skinnier than in the picture, so the sword looks a little better in real life. The construction on this sword is better than any other i've seen that's not full tang. It's not a rat tail, the blade gradually tapers down through the handle to a threaded pommel; no welding that I can see. The only problem I had is that I completely destroyed the brass pommel threads disassembling it and had to glue it back on, so i'd advise not taking this sword apart.
Sam Clifton May 06, 2012 (5 out of 5)
This sword is extremely solid, well built, and well balanced. The blade came unsharpened but that's a quick fix. Don't expect much from the scabbard your really just paying for a good quality sword for an unbeatable price! This is a great addition to any collection and great to customize too!

What a great sword!!!
I bought this sword on the 10th of Jan. and received it on the 13th. Besides just being speeding on delivery , it came packaged perfectly. I have ordered from BUDK before and I must say the quality of this sword was great. It has a great heft to it , I could almost see myself raiding a village in England , or sailing down the Seine and striking fear into the Franks. The weather today was perfect, snowy and cold just like it would be in the old country.

usable
This is a great sword for those beginning in medieval combat reenactment. The blade is carbon and this is highly unlikely to crack, the threaded pommel is easily remedied by some thread-locker and makes it easier to personalize the look of the sword. I engraved some futhork runes on the blade and metal parts of the scabbard and put a hemp grip on it and it looks just as authentic as many of the higher end swords. My wife is just getting into the live-steel combat in our reenactment group and this is likely to be the sword she starts with.

Best Sword on the Market for the Money
I own two of these. They're the best sword for the money I've ever seen, and I own some very high end swords. You can take two of those and beat the crap out of them and they won't fall apart. They're reasonably period accurate, they come with a sheath, and the price makes it possible to purchase a couple of them and create a nice effect on your wall.

Beautiful blade! Very light, perfect for swinging at random things. Edge isn't sharp upon arrival, but can be easily sharpened. Blade is in relatively good condition, but scabbard was slightly damaged, possibly in shipping. Its no big deal though to me, as the sword more than makes up for the minor flaws overall. If it has costed 100$ or something my review would be far more critical, but when you only pay 40$ for a sword don't expect expert quality! The point is good for thrusting and the blade can be good for slashing if sharpened. The handle isn't the greatest, and can cause minor discomfort when you're swinging it around, but to a true warrior this shouldn't be an issue at all! It's soft at least, fake leather stitched together (just like the scabbard). The sword isn't as shiny as the picture depicts, but I didn't care because I was going to get it scuffed and dirty anyways! The actual blade does go into the handle at about half the width of the blade. I'm not sure if it goes all the way through or just halfway. The scabbard fits nicely on my belt so I can carry the blade with me at night when my brothers and I sneak out to cause chaos in the neighborhood!

WELL HOW DO I PUT THIS
this is a good solid piece, ofcourse none of budks swords are battle ready this is a stainless steel blade, the sword does not fit in the scabbard, but its a na=ice blade especially for the ren faire

norseman sword nice for display
I have a nautical room and it looks good on the wall. Be sure you wash all the black dye from the scabbard and polish with black shoe polish or you'll have a mess on your hands

A good place to start
I'm pleased. It came earlier than expected. It's in good condition. It has good weight. There is a brace pommel (that's the counterbalance to the blade) The blade is pretty straight with a fuller most of the length. There are some flaws but I'm not troubled by them. The brass guard is lop-sided and there are some swells longwise along the blade. All-in-all, it's a great buy and a great foundation for a project. I'm happy to have it. I would like to have a little bit more information on the metallurgy of the blade. Thanks BudK :D

Don't by if you want to use it I snapped the blade off after three hits but it's good decoration
Christopher Osterlund Jun 14, 2009 (4 out of 5)
This came in rather quickly. The sword has a full tang (rat tailed) blade, brass pommel and cross guard like it was described. The blade itself is pretty wavy, and it came in with a flat edge. It is durable, but I don't want to beat it up anymore, since it isn't heat treated. The scabbard is plain junk, fake leather, brass throat that comes of easily, and it doesn't keep the sword sheathed securely.

Overall, decent purchase. I'd recommend this for a sword customization project.
Colt Reeves Feb 24, 2009 (4 out of 5)
Good Stuff:
This sucker is a nice big and solid blade. Looks pretty much period to me, with a fuller and such.

Bad Stuff:
It seems a little on the heavy side to me, but maybe it's just that I'm a skinny little wuss. More importantly the hilt seems a little thick or too big in diameter for ease of use. Perhaps if the fake leather wrap comes off like everyone else says happened to them in their reviews it'll be a bit more managable. That's my main complaint. The hilt just seems a little larger than is comfortable, which is the last thing someone wants to be thinking about when swinging a sword.
Lastly, the scabbard isn't that great either. The only point of attachment is a knob on one side.

Conclusion:
Not a bad blade. Overall I'd recommend this thing to anyone who wants a cheap and mostly-period sword. 4 out of 5.

Great for sparring
I really do love this word. it has an amazing look and it eminates strength. the pommel balances out the blade very well. The grip is amazing, very high quality leather. I've rated it a 4/5 because of one thing. Like many other swords, its handle unscrews. It has a bolt under the pommel which may need to be tightened. But if you use this as a decorative sword you don't need to worry about this. I spar with my swords so having a solid feel is essential. Overall this sword is amazing and in my opinion is worth every penny or more.
Rob Strasz Mar 22, 2008 (4 out of 5)
Let me start off by saying that i only purchase swords that in my opinion are battle ready. i was a bit hesitant on ordering this due to the fact that it says nothing about the tang and that its only 35 bucks. but after recieving it i gave it a quick test and started hacking at a 2x4. the sword took a good beating and nothing important came loose. the leather wrap grip totally fell off. but thatjust leaves me room for customization of it. the scabbard kinda sucks too but who gives a damn, its the sword that counts. if you want a cheap sword to lead you into the halls of valhalla this is right for you.

Sword works great for the project I was working on.
Patrick Jan 15, 2015 (2 out of 5)
it was subpar
The sword was ok but it would not fit into the sheath, the sheath itself was shoddy and the tie on point came off
