I got this when i bought the 5 piece collector set . i love the line of M48 i thought the handle would be longer. And I'm glad its not.. Fits perfectly in my hand would be awesome to fight with its awesome Recommend for anyone

Spear is legit. Great price. Wish they gave option for longer staff. I would pay extra for that. I have this home protection but I plan on using it for hiking, camping where you might bump into an animal.

The handle is a little thinner then I was expecting and I would like it to have been about a foot longer. (Pic is It next to a standard dowel used as a closet hanger.) Other then that, I love this bad boy. Now I am seriously considering other M48 items. Especially other pole arms because they are interchangeable so I could put this spear head on a longer shaft haha! Might even by another of these one day. That is if they are not discontinued and go on sale again. $50-$60 is an acceptable price. If you use this weapon appropriately you will love it too. It is not meant to be thrown at trees or thrust into railroad ties. In fact, unless you are a competent spear thrower, just don’t throw it. You will damage it. Also, it’s not an axe so don't swing it like one. And it’s not a knife either. This is for thrusting into fleshy targets. Some of these reviews are extreme cringe.

This spear fits in the molle on the back of my M48 tactical vest. I carry this into the woods with me for protection against coyotes and snakes. Of course if they somehow get past this spear then I’ve got two pistols. One in the vest holster and one in the M48 rigged drop leg holster. Which by the way if you don’t have the vest or drop leg holster you need to go buy them today! I recommend all 3 products, the spear, tactical vest, and drop leg holster!

I read many of these so-called reviews, and may I just say as an expert spearhunter, most of you are morons. This is not a weapon designed to slice, it's designed to penetrate (like a f*****g spear)! If you want a long polearm style weapon that can slice like a sword without breaking or bending etc. then buy a Japanese Naginata. Otherwise, this spear will perform excellently as described. Stop being dumb.

This spear can be used like a hikking staff, good for defense its Light and good looking! I cut a cow's leg bone and poked a dead pig's head... So it can kill things. Its a short spear and is needed some training to adapt to its size

Hey there, all those whom are using this spear for what it is not designed should not own a weapon at all. This spear is awesome for piecing flesh and bone. It is also an awesome self defense weapon and can be used in confined spaces. So all of you idiots whom are flinging it into wood and metal you are really brain dead. Just saying

This blade is awesome! I tore apart my archery target and was even able to throw it across the room and hit my mark!! Cut clean through the top of my shoe pulling it out of my target (accidentally of course) This is a serious weapon! Well built and sturdy and a definite recommend to friends!!

The M48 Survival Spear from United Cutlery is designed for survival, but earned it's weight in gold as a stalk hog hunters CQB weapon of choice. I am sure it would work great against zombies, yet to be tested by me, but for size, weight, and the strength in the design, you could take down a T-Rex. Bravo Zulu UC..

I really like this spear. It is designed as a combat and personal defense weapon and it is very good for those applications. It is not a hunting spear or garden tool, so don't use it for things it's not made for and you'll be happy with it. The handle appears quite sturdy but a little thin and slippery for me. Some sports tape wrapped around it at my hand contact points was a quick and easy fix. Personally, I think the length is just right for a combat weapon and allows for fast and fluid maneuvering. The spear head is a thick substantial steel piece and strongly made. Mine was very sharp out of the box, both at the point and along the edges too. It is a very effective and well made weapon for personal defense and I'm happy with the purchase.

I bought this short spear for the specific purpose of finishing downed game, if required. Good balance and perfect length for ending a hog hunt.

I bought this short spear for finishing downed animals while hog hunting. I can see straight out of the box that it will be ideal for the purpose intended.

I've wanted one of these survival spears for over a year, but I thought the price was too high. Bud-K offered a 15% discount on all merchandise, so I bought a spear at a good cheap price. I am NOT disappointed. Great quality at a great price.

and it doesn't claim to be. This it totally perfect as a personal defense weapon. It's the right size for most adults to wield against another human. If you train with staff weapons for fitness, then this is a great step up. the spear head has decent weight to it, but doesn't throw you off entirely so you can get adjusted to it. This is not a long Phalanx spear, stop downvoting it for that. Stop attacking trees with the tip and whining about it bending/breaking. it is not defective, your brain is. if you attack a tree, you will lose in one way or another unless you're using a chainsaw. It's a well balanced spear, and after wanting it for a few months and finally giving in, I'm a happy customer.

First of all....why all the comments on 'length'? The dimensions are clearly added in the ad. Yet all the complaints about how short it is. It's a tacticle tool....it's not supposed to be long. Also, comments about hunting use. It's not a hunting spear. It's not for Boar, or Deer. The comment from the 'Deer" slayer is just baloney. But anyone who really hunts Deer knows this. The handle is tough and will hold up. Maybe too thin for some, it's fixable. If it were thicker, their would be complaints about it being to thick. Mainly, it's strong, it's durable, and the proper length for defense. Any longer and it would be a hinderence in maneuvering. So...people, please....read the description in its entirety before complaining.

I had been shopping around for spears for quite some time before finding this gem, The crap listed on amazon as "boar hunting spear"s Don't deserve the title in the slightest. The M48 On the other hand, Does. For starters the blade is a beauty right out of the box. Gave it a hell of a time (with the awesome price you can afford to beat it up) From Trees to sheet metal it took it all on and only sustained a bend on the very tip that I eventually sharpened back to normal. For throwing I'm having a hard time on targets past 9 feet away but with practice I'm sure that could change. All in all this spear is 100% worth the cash.

Despite what you might hear, this weapon is actually quite handy. It was a bit shorter than I expected, but still quite pleasing. The shaft is made of heavy duty, light weight plastic. The broadhead is perfectly balanced and extremely sharp. **NOTE*** THIS WEAPON IS AWESOME FOR THROWING IT HAS PERFECT BALANCE I WENT HUNTING AND PIERCED A DEER THROUGH THE LUNG WITH THIS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT

Very impressed with both this spear and its hammer brother. The spear head is SOLID. The edge is decent, but this thing is definitely durable. I wouldnt hesitate to use it to pry open a door if I had to, provided I could get the thicker part of the blade head (and this this is nearly 1" thick) into the jamb.

When is first opened this spear it was everything I was expecting! I would recommend this to anyone that was thinking about it! If you are going to get this though you must keep it sharp or else the blade starts to get jagged. All in all a great weapon.

this spear is amazing but needs to be about a foot or so longer.good blade and a strong shaft and a needle sharp point its awesome to throw a stuff cause it always sticks.would i recommend this to a friend yes but i like the novelty of being the only one who owns one where i live.

This item is top quality. It has taken everything I could put it through with ease and flair. I see some complain about the length of the shaft, and I could not think they were more wrong. If you're in close quarters, a cramped room or hallway, or closely grow trees or shrubs, you don't want a lengthy shaft knocking around behind you and getting tangled or jammed in god knows what should you have to use it for defense. If you're looking for something to plant against a knight on horseback charging down of you, you're looking at the wrong item. This is a tactical item, not medieval fantasy weapon. I keep this as part of my "SHTF Kit" and have made a carry rig, as I am too tall to use the handgrip as a walking cane adequately, for when I go hiking. Would certainly recommend to others.

This is just what I hoped it would be. Good weight and length unless you want a walking stick. Another foot or two longer might be nice but the weight will go up at the blade and slow movement down so I like it the way it is (for now). The blade was sharp and like most blades will dull very fast if it sticks in the ground a few times but sharpened pretty easily. The sheath fits very well and won't just fall off, in fact if you flip the release and try to throw it off it takes a lot to come off. Now which light or laser will mount to this thing?

this spear is amazing.the blade is solidly attached to the shaft.and this thing is sharp right out of the box. my only regret is that i dint buy a second one.while this thing isn't meant to be thrown because of the fact that most of the weight is in the head. this thing is however great for melee combat.thanks budk i will definitely come back for more.

The M48 spear is a well constucted weapon. I will be ideal for my hog hunting. The 8 inch blade is thick enough that I dont have to worry about it breaking. The tip is sharp enough that it should penatrate the hog hide. Looking forward to a hunting trip now.

This thing is AWESOME!!! I give it a 5 star the sheath is a hard to get on and get off cause the spear is so sharp im afraid it will. Cut it, but HEY that SHOULD NOT turn u off about this spear. This thing has NO flaws if u know how to use a spear, URGGHHHHHHH WEN i opened the box i wanted to vomit RAINBOWS CAUSE IF HOW AWESOME THIS THING WAS.

It's a great spear! worth every buck. i just wished that you can tie the spear with a paracord for easy retrieval. spear is very sturdy. i already have the m48 axe. thinking of buying the long m48 axe. i've been buying from budk for years and always happy with the deals.

This spear is serious business. Even straight out of the package the blade is sharp enough to do a lot of damage. The shaft is very solid and could deliver very damaging blows by itself without the spearhead. This is a top-notch purchase for the price. Well worth the investment as a self or home defense weapon.
Feb 22, 2013
(5 out of 5)
This spear has a hefty weight to it. It's all centered closer to the blade. The blade itself is as thick as the spear shaft and the tang travels about 3 to 4 inches down the shaft, securely bolted by three screws (that are flush with the shaft)

By first reaction was "Freaking awesome!" And I took it outside and started stabbing trees. To my dismay, it can't handle much hard stabbing before the tip begins to bend in so the steel isn't as hardened as it could be for a spear, but I digress. Spear tips are the most dangerous point of the spear and the weakest point at the same time. It is easily hammered back in place and if any of the blade becomes chipped? You can simply sharpen away until there are no more imperfections.

I would definitely recommend this spear to any one of my friends. I recommend this spear to you who are reading this.

When I first held it i was skeptical about what could be done with it. After a few weeks of playing with it WOW is what comes to mind! Nice Balanced, good edge and durable. Martial artists may use it similar to a Jo Staff due to it's size. Easy to throw and very light weight and sturdy. Well worth the money for anyone adding to a practical addition to their collection! Way to Go BudK! Way to Go United Cutlery!

The pictures had me a bit worried about the blade, but upon recieving this today along with the Tactical Hammer. I have to say the spear blade is much better than that pic, great quality. It would be better with a bit of counter weight being that the shaft is short but not really a complaint just an observation. A great buy I recommend.

Essentially, anything from M48 Kommando is well worth the money. The spear in question is well made, has excellent balance and is weighted with comfort. Mine came as sharp as anticipated. An overall great weapon. With enough practice, it can even be thrown with great effect.

When I first saw this spear I knew I had to own it. Also needed to own one for a close friend so I bought two of them. It is everything I hoped it would be. I do primitive camping a lot and always take a pistol for protection. Now I would not have a problem with only taking this. Needed a bit of sharpening to be where I wanted it but that was easy. I am extremely satisfied. 5 big stars.

First of all, this spear is amazing. The end of it perfectly round, and amazing for penetration. The length of the spear is amazing, and it can be crammed very far into your "target". I love this spear so much. So. Much.

I recently received the m48 Hawk and Karambits and they insanely sturdy and sharp right out of box(I should know I sliced my finger open with the Karambit on the first time I pulled it out of the sheath ha!). Long story short, if they are so Intensly awesome AND usefull, this monster has to raise the bar by what I can tell. I haven't received it yet but will update when it shipped, will torture test of course.

Bought this just because it looked Cool and I collect guns knives blades etc I've jabbed it into trees through microwaves dish washers and other household appliances along with plywood and some cheap furniture and the only complaint I have was the tip bent a little but I fixed that with a flat file very enjoyable product

Wish it was a little longer. It appears to be well made--haven't tested it yet. Will use it as a walking stick where I hike, because there are shady characters around sometimes that the spear would be good to be armed with.

this spear is epic. it effortlessly penetrates any target i put in front of it including pop cans and a inch thick piece of particle board several trees and tree stumps . i also have used this hog hunting and its pretty good as a back up. my only gripe though is its a little short im a 6'3" tall guy and this thing is about four foot long. all im saying is make it two foot longer. or at least make a shaft in a longer length. i also wrapped the shaft in the middle with some good old fashioned 550 cord. if your wanting something to just toss around then BUY THIS SPEAR!!!

I'm an avid collector and have quite a few M-48 "Hawk" series items in my collections. The M-48 "Hawk" axe or tomahawk I give out of 5 stars a 9.98 star rating. I bought two of those M-48 Tomahawk axes for their top quality. Since then I've bought many accessory items with the M-48 logo for their quality and this spear is NEXT on my list since it should have the same M-48 quality then I'll be very happy. I'll buy one and if\since the quality should be there then I'll end up buying a second one to make it a set like I did with the tomahawk axe. I'm looking forward to getting the first one delivered at my door and plan to start the new year off with it being my first order for the year. The M-48 quality to me stands for Top Quality. ;)

This is a great product, and is functional. The staff is well built the blade keeps a good edge and is thick and durable. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because I wish it was longer to double as a Walkingstick/spear. I like to hike and I think this product would be a excellent Walkingstick/Spear for Protection against large animals
Apr 24, 2013

This is a awesome product. I am very impressed with the durability of the staff and blade. If I could make one suggestion is that the staff could be longer so that it could double as a walking stick and survival spear.

When I opened my m48 spear I was maniacally laughing because I couldn't wait to take this baby outside and wreak havoc. It went seamlessly through milk jugs and aluminum cans, and was very easy to twirl around. Naturally, I then wanted to see its piercing power. I gathered an old railroad tie and gripped the spear firmly. Upon thrusting this instrument of doom into the wood, I noticed it was very difficult to pull it back out. When I retrieved it I noticed the tip of the spear folded and was rendered useless. I don't want to give up on this spear because I loved it up to that point, so I'm going to see if I can get a non-defective one.

I bought it felt sturdy, but when I tried to cut some cutzoo vines, the blade not only got so dull but it developed nicks in the blade LIKE its the cheapest steel they found to make this spear,And it would never chop a block like it shows in the picture cause the spear would break an completely destroy the edges.

The spear head is poorly made where if one does anything just a little tough the spear will bend, If you are thinking about buying this spear I do not suggest it, put put it through one throw into a normal wooden target and it bent out of control.

Once I got the box I was immediately disappointed in the spear. Sure, the spear head is a thick chunk of steal, but the staff length renders it hardly functional for anti-personnel or even wild game defense/hunting. Also, the shaft was too thin, I had to add custom grip with athletic tape to get the grip necessary to even train with it. I don't have he confidence that this spear would hold up if I really needed it. Worth maybe $39, definitely not the $69 I paid! Bummer too, because I was excited for this bad boy to be legit. Far from it :-(
