I bought this a couple of months back. As with all the knives I get I put it to heavy use and it pulled it’s weight and then some!! Only complaint (if u wanna call it that) it essentially as sharp as I had hoped , but given the weight of this I understand why they wouldn’t want to put a razor edge on it. Easy fix with a small file and a stone/ steel. Thanks again budK

An exact duplicate of the one in Rambo 4. Super strong and gives a lot of momentum to a chop. Blade can be sharpened to a razor edge.

the machete was great! It hacks down small trees easy! The sheath is good, but could be improved. The leather lanyard came off while I was swing, but I fixed that with some 550 cord!

I bought 2, one for collection and one for use. I almost hit my leg with it when I went to take down a 4 inch, in diameter, banana tree. It sliced straight through it with so much ease I almost hit my leg. Heavy and thick, you could chop down a nice size tree if need be.

Due to its heaviness it chopped three goats without sharpening, definitely recommend, Thanks Bud!

Got mine on one of the % sales. Strong heavy but only some of it was sharp the rest of the edge was like a spoon. The rap was lame replaced it with 550 cord Me and Lansky will work on the edge. This WILL be a great blade.

Heavy Strong elongated axe !! Love the heft of it ! I put it on an grinding wheel and ground it to a hook angle that is not only plenty sharp but will hold that edge quite a while! A good file will do the same job, just takes a little longer! This Monster will get the job done!! By the way, if you have to pay to get it sharp you don't belong out in the outdoors. You won't be able to last ! Better stay in that cozy townhouse!

I wanted this blade for a few years now and now that I finally got it, and I'd describe this primitive knife as a cross between a machete, cleaver, and a hatchet. The end product is a heavy and solid chunk of steel. In addition, you get a sleek leather sheath and Hibben's certificate of authenticity. The blade isn't the sharpest, but due to it's weight, it'll just crush anything that gets in it's way. This replica does the one Stallone used in the movie maximum justice, right down to the hammer marks and scuffs. Quite possibly the most favorite knife in my collection.

This is an extremely strong blade. It came with a little gunk on the handle, but came off right away. Takes a stronger arm to swing it continuously, but it hits amazingly hard and cuts deep.....thanks BUDK

I wanted this knife for my collection and when it arrived I was surprised as to how massive this knife was. Now i just have to keep on working on my Gil Hibben collection and I just hope the rest of the my knife collection will be as great as this machete. If anybody wants a great knife for a collection or to use for hunting you have to buy this knife and you can't beat the price.

I am a big fan THE United Cutlery and have several of their knives but when I bought this one I ashamed that Gil Hibben made such beautiful but dull knife. So I said to my self this not like United Cutlery to be a disappointment. So being real man of big and tuff knives I did some research and Hibben didn"t let me down. I went in to the basement with my new machete took a piece of two by four gave it a knock and the two by four broke in half. The biggest and baddest machete in my house now belongs the Gil Hibben 4 Machete Knife this knife is as tough as a axe and you could fire wood with on the hunt or out camping this bad dosen`t slice but chops through the opposition. Not a knife for any sacred to swing through the rougher terrain. This is a man's knife. My advice if you already one or when you get one to ensure you that this machete knife is axe tough chop some fire wood with it. Get a nice size log give it swing and a little elbow grease should drop down through that log until you have not one but two pieces of wood.

I own three of these larger than life machetes. My only problem with it is it could have come sharper. I have taken care of that and I have actually chopped firewood with it. I have used it on small trees and it worked well. It is heavy enough to absorb the impact so your arm doesn't have to. I even tested it as a throwing knife. It sticks every time I've thrown it from 15 feet. My wooden target said "no more" as it obliterates the wood. I keep one behind the seat of my car for unexpected issues, one in the shed, and one in a night stand for things that go bump in the night. I don't find much wrong with it at under $40. Not a light knife to wield so it will tire you out. The sheath is as good as any you get that isn't custom made. It isn't as pretty as the Hibben Combat Machete but it is carbon steel and up to any challenge. Swinging this beast makes me feel like my Viking ancestors.............

I almost pasted on this one with the talk of the handle being too wide to grip. I'm Sooo glad I didn't listen and me this purchase! Your in charge out in the field with this blade strapped to your side. It is a ture out of the box monster! It could have been a litter sharper, but the s sheer weight of the piece alone will smash though what it doesn't cut! A blade this thick doesn't show up at your door step at this price very often so don't miss!

This machete out of the box is a beast. Hefty, great for working around the property. As others mentioned, the handle is poorly wrapped. I sent mine to the machine shop with a friend who drilled the handle for a paracord wrap (SIGNIFICANT improvement) and he also drilled 8 1/2" holes in the thick of the blade to cut some weight. Overall, outstanding tool!

Actually, I made a mistake when ordering this product; I thought I was ordering the combat machete; however, upon its arrival and inspection. I decided this might be a good "real tool" for working around my property; I have not put it to the test yet, but I have no doubts about the reliability of this product; one look at it and the feel of its weight told this was the workhorse I was looking for. because of its weight, I does not need to have the sharpness of a razor, but the potential for razor sharpness is there. The bottom line is that I decided to keep it. as for the handle being a little large a good pair of non slip mechanics glove will take of that. so instead returning I decided to keep it, and I have already recommended this product to friends of mine who do their own property clearing and landscaping. I think this tool will be with me for quite a while; probably pass it on to my son.

Have been looking for a thick blade machete for a long time.I have owned many other machetes and they were like chopping with a wood hand saw blade.I debated about this machete for a some time.Sent in the order it arrived very fast, opened the box, first the leather sheath, very thick leather,it would cost me about what I payed for the machete to order the leather and make one,so far good deal.Next the machete exactly what I have been looking for years.Walked out the back door chopped some limbs off a tree I plan on taking out.The machete fit my hand I wear gloves for safety, no blade wobble.Big smile on my face. Thanks Bud-K for this product and the great price.I am sure this machete will last my life time and into the next generation.I plan on leaving it to a family member when I check out. Look to do more business with your company.

First things first, this is a machete not a ninja sword so don't pay attention to the others on here complaining that it won't cut paper, it was never meant to cut paper it was meant to cut small trees, branches, and clear brush which it does very well. If you have any experience with a machete at all you know that a thin razor sharp blade will only become damaged easier. If you want to do a paper test buy a sword or a pocket knife. If you want a bad**s machete that will get the job done and last a long time, then the hibben IV is for you.

Got this for my Godbrother. Not sharp out the box, but doesn't necessarily need to be, as te weight makes chopping really easy in terms of momentum. Once it has been sharpened, it's even better. Sheath is nice. Rivers would be a geeat addition. I do kind of wish it wasn't described as "hand forged" because both detail an common sense reveals that untrue. Still more pros than cons if you want a heavy duty machete.

when i first saw these Rambo style knives i knew just by the description that i had to have one, so i purchased one and when i got it in the mail i was in love with it. the weight and size of it made up for the not so sharp blade it is very well made and the leather sheath is made well also. i purchased another one fore a friend of mine and he loves it also......i recommend this blade fore anyone, Tanks Budk!!

This is a "he-man" machete. It's tough, heavy, and brings out the primitive cave-man in me. It's got a great look and balance for a heavy machete in that the blade will do the work instead of your muscles. I give this 5 BIG stars for being an excellent value and a tough machete. I only have two criticisms of this machete, and they are minor. First, it wasn't sharp at all out of the box. You don't want a razors edge on a high carbon steel machete, but this was pretty much butter knife dull coming out of the box. No problem that I can't fix in a few minutes with my sharpener though. The other minor complaint is that the wrapping on the handle is pretty cheezy. If you are going to hang it on the wall in your man-cave, it's perfect for that. But if you are going to actually use it you will want to wrap it either in a tougher leather or paracord. But those are 2 very minor complaints about a great machete/knife. I can't imagine a heavy cutting job that this beauty wouldn't be able to handle. If you are on the fence about buying one, just do it. I promise you won't be disappointed!

When I bought this piece I didn’t know what to expect, and I was pleasantly surprised, it was heavy, sharp, and thick it’s the type of piece you lose before breaking…and to do that is to forget it, because you’ll notice if it falls off you…it’s definitely not for lightweights…

As a christmas gift, I was looking for something that would last through the years & stand a chance of being abused by an old friend of mine who joined the Marine Corps. about a year ago. I stumbled across this evil looking knife & that was it, instead of buying just one, I bought one knife for myself & for my friend. Two weeks later they finally arrived & I open them up just to inspect the goods, to my sheer amazement they were both better than i could have hoped for. As soon as I picked one of knives up, I knew THIS was the knife i was looking for. Catalog information can only interest you so much, but this knife is worth its "rather hefty" weight in gold. The knives came with an edge, but you wont be slicing paper in one stroke like you see with some knives. The weight guarentees that if you dont cut into what ever you may be swinging at, you will definitely cause a seriously bone crushing hit. All good things about this knife. Now the leather sheath is a piece all its own. It's good quality leather & crafted in a way which should you damage it, tear the stitchings etc.. Its rather easy to repair. The sheath comes with the knife as stiff as a surfboard so it will take some wear before the knife will sheath & un-sheath with ease. Suggestion? work the leather but simply sheathing & unsheathing, its a bit of a pain but if you're not willing to work the leather then you don't need this knife. also remember to oil down the sheath every now & then, keep it from cracking & drying out. Little on the outside and drop some inside and use the knife to get the oil to the bottom. Now Here is where a little home tweeking could come into play. The Knife itself will need little attention with the exception of a honing every three or four months depending on its use, but the cord wrapping around the handle and the lanyard WILL need changing if you use this knife daily. I would suggest 550 paracord for both the lanyard and the wrapping. *notes* May need both hands to hold.

This thing is deadly! I call it the hay-maker of machetes because if you land a hit on someone with this you can easily cause serious damage, even cut off a limb..but if you miss you'll just end up tiring yourself out because this has some weight to it.

This is an awesome Gil Hibben designed blade. BUDK has a better price on this machete-knife than anyone. I paid less than $46 dollars total as a club member (I would have been fine with paying $20 more). The non-club member price is still less than $50 total. The Hibben IV that I received was a brutal piece of 1090 carbon steel with a solid, tough sheath and a good velvet-suede texture cord wrap. I read various reviews at many retailers before purchasing this machete-knife. After receiving it, I feel that most of those people leaving bad reviews were not aware of the type of blade they would receive (almost every product has a lemon now and then). This blade is not for detailed hobby work. Is is a brutal weapon meant to smash whatever has the misfortune to be in front of it (man, beast or brush). It also has massive vintage cool factor. When I first looked at it in person, I thought it looked like the kind of weapon a blacksmith would have had around the shop to avoid being robbed.

I've purchased a lot of items from Budk, including several big knives like the Outlaw Bowie, the El Paso Bowie, and the Ranger Bowie, and they are all quite impressive, but when I received the Hibben IV Machete, I was truly amazed by the sheer weight and size of it - quite stunned really. The forged carbon blade is so thick it will certainly last a lifetime. This is my first Hibben, but it won't be my last. It is no wonder that his designs are world famous.

I don't know what people are talking about saying this Machete is not sharp. It is shipped with the blade in a cardboard sleeve. I took it out and sliced through that sleeve as well as a piece of paper like they were butter. Maybe it wasn't all that sharp a while back, but they apparently listened. These latest reviews though, saying these guys sharpened it so skillfully (This kind of steel doesn't dull or sharpen easily....sounds to me like people trying to brag about their sharpening skills at the makers expense. The mystery snap in the pic is also gone and the wrist lanyard has been lengthened. I think I will take a reviewers advice and add hockey tape to the handle to make it thicker and protect the leather wrap. The sheath. Yes, the Gil Hibben mark is on the backside, WHERE IT BELONGS. Do you were shirts with the tags facing out? The brand is there to show your friends, but why advertise that you have quality. Strangers will want to steal it, or worse, know what they and their toy are up against and come

Serial# GH5007. A hunk of 1090 steel that is out of this world. Needed sharpening but that was a small matter. Has become an integral part of my bug-out bag. A multi-purpose tool that can hammer nails and so much more. Was glad to get it have seen a cheaper imitation that does not come close. Thanks BudK my Hibben collection is becoming quite impressive.

I just got this today. I have to say this is by far the best Machete I own . Its balanced well and has great wieght to it. The handle is a little small for my hand but I have pretty big hands, Ill just use it with some gloves. The blade isnt that sharp when you get it , but you can put a razor sharp edge on it and , let me tell you ..this thing is a beast. I will be buying 2 more of these really soon. Thanks BUDK !!

A friend of mine gave this to me for Christmas after I said I was thinking about getting one. WOW this is easily one of the best blades I've ever owned. I am excited to own this machete, and thinking of getting a second. The sheer weight, and being 1090 High Carbon makes it a steal at the price BudK sells it for. Plus it is an authentic Hibben. Love the machete and recommend everyone to own at least 1.

Great knife. Can do everything from cutting roots hacking brush to splitting wood. Love it. I do a lot of cooking over open fires and this knife has become a huge help. You can hit it with a hammer and it is solid.

I am not a big fan of chinese knives, but this beast when sharpened, is the perfect camp knife! It just feels right in the hand. Hibben stamped his logo on the back of the scabbard for copy right reasons, the snap was put there to be true to the movie Stallone used the sheath from the Rambo III knife for this machete that he hand forged in the movie. another great BUD-K DEAL!

This is a great machete, its dull out the box (duh), and it has a big handle that might be uncomfortable for people with small hands. The cloth wrap will come off and it os NOT a gil hibben. It is a Licensed replica of a hibben design. This thing is a work horse non the less.

I got this machete on sale for $28 and I must say, it is my favorite machete. Its a bid shorter than I expected but is definitely thick and heavy. Seems great for chopping. The sheath is nice quality and fits well. I have 2 complaints about this knife though. One would be the handle wrap is some kind of cheap fabric, and two would be the condition I received it in. Due to the hot weather, the foam from inside the box actually melted onto the handle and will not come off so one side of the handle is solid white. Mine also came with a bit of rust on it as well. Other than that though, this is a great machete even for double what I paid.

I got this knife just yesterday.....I got to say this is one rock solid peice. It's heavy, thick, and just plainly a beast. It's got a good edge on it out of the box, sadly some Styrofoam mixed with the oil and I had to clean that out of the leather. Good thick sheath, it's a heavy blade, but all in all well worth it.

This is a good machete for the price. That being said the blade is a little dull and will require additional sharpening. Also,as others have pointed out,the handel will require an additional four or five windings of leather or cord.

Being from Gil Hibben, I thought "wow" this is going to be great. Overall, it is very good. I like the size and the design. The Chinese did a good job in the manufacture of the blade. However, the blade is a little front heavy for my taste. The point and the blade will need to be sharpened more. The handle could use another two or three windings of leather. The leather on the belt loop of the sheath has already separated before I have taken to the field for evaluation. This is good, but I expected better for the money and the name. The Outlaw Bowie for $19.99 is a better deal in my opinion.

I was very pleased when this "Beast" arrived. It has a good "machete edge" right out of the box. It's not razor sharp but I don't want a razor edge on a chopping machete. The handle will probably need some extra wrapping as I have large hands but this one is much better than one I saw at a knife and gun show.

This monster is heavy, a little dull out of the box and the wrap on the handle could be a little better/thicker but after putting an edge on it and a pair of gloves I took down a dozen small trees about a foot across each without a problem. A lot of fun and a must have for anyone!

Big bulky machete! Very heavy, I had to modify as soon as I got iras the handle was uncomfortable and cording wrapped handle was cheap. Blade was dull, but I after I took a ill weight off , put a new grip on it and sharpened her up its Great!

Talk about a heavy piece of steel!! I was very impressed when I received the Hibben Machete and took it out of the box. The weight behind this tool is unbelievable. I have not yet had the chance to use it, and the only thing I seen that I would liked to have changed was the sharpness of the blade. There is a small edge on it but compared to other knives that I have purchased from BUDK, it was a bit on the dull side. Other than that, I liked it.

Been shopping for a "QUALITY" machete for some time. Most out there wont manage the thick woods/swamps of Michigan's Upper Penninsula. I had been looking at this machete for some time but didn't like the $80.00 price tag. When it went on sale I immediately ordered it. Was impressed with its weight and the massive blade right out of the box. It arrived fairly sharp. A few strokes of the accusharp and it was ready to go. Only complaint was the handle wrap and the lanyard. Pretty cheaply done considering the construction of the machete. I replaced both with parachord and now its good to go. At this price now, "BUY this BEAST"

This machete is awesome, I didn't expect it to as big and gnarly as it is. I'm a little dude, only about 5'4 and 120 lbs, but with one swing this machete will bury itself about half way into a six inch tree its quite impressive, but if you have little hands its a little awkward to swing one-handed. It came with a decent edge, definitely could be sharper but with its weight and size it doesn't really matter. I've used mine all summer and fall for chopping down trees and splitting wood I haven't sharpened it yet and still don't need to. Over all this is a wonderful machete and very useful i would recommend it to anyone looking for a big tough useful machete. The only issues i had with mine are the cord handle DOES NOT stay tight and the belt loop ripped the first time i put it on my belt but other then that, both the machete and sheath are excellent.

I was impressed with this blade the moment I saw it online. This is a world class machete from Hibben, and the price is ridiculously cheap. Can't wait to take this bad boy camping!! Only 4 stars because it came with no sheath snap and needs a bit of sharpening. Great buy, great blade, thanks budk!!

Have looked at this for a while now. Finally decided to take the plunge and get it. It is strong and solid, very strong quality steel. The finish looks amazing and this is the first piece i got the customized 3 letter thing. I really do like it, i would say for the money if you are looking for similar items why not. I think it has collectors value. Although neither of these things i'm about to mention would deter me from buying it all over again i wanted to note that mine game worse than extremely dull. It had no edge whatsoever. it more resembled a grinded flat edge or cut out of stock metal. Even so, i actually don't mind at all. I get to put my own edge on it, its going to take a lot of work but i want to use this as a hatchet/wood working replacement. The way mine came allows me to remove as much metal as i want and i can get the wt appropriate for me. The 2nd slight downfall is the handle is very tall, comfortably thick and well wrapped with a comfortable leather band, but i have small to medium hands and i can tell if i don't reduce some material in the height of the handle it will get uncomfortable chopping against hardwood. This is ok still to me for similar reasons of being able to reduce metal there and maybe even add some grooves for fingers.

The Blade is very heavy and sharp. Able to chop wood with it. However, the stealth fell apart. It is made of pressed leather. Stealth lasted about a year before starting to crumble.

I am kinda obsessed with knives and machetes, I would highly recommend ANYTHING made or designed by Gil Hibben. How ever I was GREATLY LET DOWN by this machete. It is overly heavy the handle is too thick for comfort for working, the leather wrap for the hand "grip" is a joke as far as Hibben is concerned. It was Dull out of the box, and hard to bring to a good edge. It is called the Hibben IV, which is also a name used for the Hibben Combat machete, of similar design. (Which I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND GETTING, DONT WASTE MONEY ON THIS GET THE COMBAT MACHETE made my Hibben it is 20 x the tool this one pretends to be.

If you were buying steel and leather by the pound, this would be a good buy. I've used many machetes and axes, and they are not razor sharp, but they are sharp. This one is not sharp, even for a machete. You should be able to cleave a sapling with one stroke, or clear brush. In a fight, you might use this monster as a sword-breaker if you were strong enough. Might be better used as rifle-plate in your flak jacket.

This knife has a wide handle that takes a large hand size to obtain a secrue grip. Having anything but a secure grip with a knife of this weight is dangerous and uncomfortable. Unfortunately my hand size is average so without modifications to the handel I would not use it. Don't know if it is worth while to try to modify the handel.

I BOUGHT THIS KNIFE BECAUSE THE HYPE THAT IT WAS BAD-ASS AND WHILE IT LOOKS KOOL THE BLADE IS COMPLETELY DULL WHICH MEANS IT DOESN'T CUT AND YOU WILL NEED TO SPEND 7-10 BUCKS TO HAVE IT SHARPENED.. DISAPPOINTED WITH BUDK THAT THEY WOULD SELL SOMETHING THIS DULL... IF YOU BUY IT EXPECT TO HAVE IT SHARPENED MORE OF A NOVELTY THEN A REAL KNIFE.. SHAME!!! RAMBO WOULDNT BE DEAD OUTTA LUCK ..

Train wreck 40, dollars wasted, the leather sheath is junk, but mainly there is no edge on it NONE. Machetes don't have to be sharp but they can't be square edged. You would expect junk for a lesser price, but in this price range some companies make some very good blades this is not one of them DO NoT LISTEN TO THE HIGH REVIEWS ON THIS ONE. BUDK STRIKES AGAIN.
