Product Description
Modeled after the spears carried to this day by savage tribal warriors, the Colombian Survival Spear was designed to withstand the fiercest of demands. The latest evolution of the Colombian lineup, this Colombian Survival Spear features a high-carbon SK5 steel blade with a black oxide coating and satin-finished edge that attaches to a thick injection-molded nylon and fiberfill shaft. The virtually indestructible fiberglass filled nylon handle shaft is much stronger will not loosen up like the cheap wood shafts found on other samburu style spears. It ships in three sections that can be assembled in minutes creating a rock solid spear. Can be disassembled for transport or storage. The 5' length makes it perfect for sport throwing or small-medium game hunting.
This spear is vastly better than it's price would have you believe. It is superior to the very similar javelin/spear by that other famous discount sword/knife company; better finish and a more useful, blade type head. The synthetic shaft is nicely textured for a good grip, and should prove extremely durable. As other reviewers have noted, the screws are not the ideal way to mount the head and butt spike. I epoxied cut down ring shank nails into the mounting holes, and used epoxy in the sockets for the head and buttspike, for permanent mounting.
Balance and handling are excellent for throwing, and both the head and butt spike are very resilient.
Highly recommended!

Stronger
At 5ft it's not that big. I never take mine apart. Forget the stupid screws. Gorilla Glue and jam it together. Finish with some bike tape I got at a rally in my Harley Days. Gators and water snakes don't stand a chance. Sharpened it with my Budk spear sharpener LOL

Very powerful and fun to throw
I practiced with this for a while this weekend and can say that it will take a beating and keep on ticking. I like that is comes in three parts and I can take it apart to carry in my bug out bag, but it's really sturdy when put back together. I threw this thing until I couldn't throw it anymore at a live oak tree and the point never bent! It stuck hard and stayed sharp. The SK5 really stood up to the challenge. It is definitely designed to throw unlike the M48 Talon spear. Get this awesome spear, you will not regret it.

Older purchase, Soft edge.
I bought this same spear about 4 years ago. And it's a decent spear. My only issue is that the blade is a bit soft and I've had issues with the edge trying to roll after hitting a soft target. Besides that, it's ok. I bought mine for $35 so I'd wait for it to go on sale again before buying.
