Night Watchman Blackthorn Shillelagh Walking Stick

SO I been watching this for a while it looks really similar to the one used in the movie Gangs of New York. I bought this because of the design and look and true self defense when walking with my family after dinner I still carry a gun lol but this walking Shillelagh is great its solid not to heavy and sharp looking I highly recommend. I can truly use this as a self defense weapon if pushed.

The item is high quality and aesthetically appealing. The weight is perfect for its intended use and the ergonomics are quite comfortable after you get used to it. My only recommendation is to buy a 3/4th inch cane tip (~ 4 to 8 USD depending on where you buy it) as the bottom can slide on wood and won't bear weight as well. Without it, the item losses some functionality as a cane but is still an excellent walking stick/aesthetic piece. With the cane tip, the item is perfect.

Greatly constructed. Sturdy. Its a very good looking Shillelagh. Added it to my wall of midieval weapons and it has caught alot of attention in the week I've had it. It's awesome.

This fits the bill. However I am 6' 2' and though workable I felt it could be a little longer. It also lacks a rubber tip and being plastic slides on smooth surfaces. Found the perfect answer. The Cyclone 2 by Dynamo replacement tip makes the tip looks like a mace. It is like it was made just for this great cane.

Delivery was rapid as usual. The cane met my expectations. Of course, I have not had the opportunity to whack someone alongside the head with it, so can't report on how easily it took a bad guy out. Of course, that greatly depends upon my doing my part on the back end. It looks as if it would do what is required. Cold Steel uses the same material in their similar cane, so unless there is some deep defect that is not apparent upon close exterior examination, this should do the job when called upon. As someone else remarked, the knob on top doesn't come to hand as easily as I would have hoped. Again, I think that is due to the configuration of the hand. Some with larger hands might find it easily comes to hand. I have hands on the smaller end of the scale (although I take a large glove???) I look like O.J. Simpson doing his famous glove act trying to fit a medium sized glove on my hand. Without catastrophic failure upon applying it in its secondary role, I would purchase it again.

Very nice item. The plastic of the staff is well textured for grip and made to look like wood from a tree straight out of Hobbiton. That top is nice and well weighted if you need to swing it fir some reason. The top does scratch easily. Mine was disfigured slightly in the first 20 minutes. Works well as a cane for when I throw out my back, just get one of those rubber cane bottoms from the pharmacy wgen you're there getting more reading glasses. I am very happy with this thing.

I have waited years to get this cane, and I have to say that I love it!!! I would highly recommend it!

He has some issues with his left leg I bought it for him as a walking stick/just in case weapon as he is 68. You never know. He said it took a little getting used to the shape of the handle. It has a nice weight and could do some damage if needed. Also needed to add a rubber tip for grip. He said he gets a lot of double takes as it is different.

This came in today. This is a lot better than i thought it would be and it is not some peace of junk . I can't believe how well this is made and it is heavy but not to heavy. I would not want to be on the receiving end of this if some one swung it at me. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a very well made cane and it will serve well in self defense and everyday walking as a cane. Thank you BudK for another great product

This is no cheap plastic toy, but rather an indestructible combat tool. Don't think you'll be able to cut, bend, or break it c: and, as my dad used to say, there aren't many problems that can't be handled with one or two strikes from a good strong stick.

The walking / security stick is great! It’s hefty, feels good in my hand. I don’t worry useing my Caine breaking ,if I had to use it to defend myself. Thanks, Luis Davila

This cane arrived today. The first thing I did was coat the faux wood with poly protective sealant. It took about 20 minutes to dry. Looks very nice and no worries about scratches now. I purchased because I have a spinal injury and need some help getting around often as I experience a lot of pain. The double usefulness of support and a defensive weapon is perfect. Who would know it could literally bust some heads..! Very happy with this, good one BudK.. Thanks!

I recently purchase the Blackthorn Shelagh and was total surprised by the quality and durability of the item. I added a rubber end tip for grip on smooth surfaces. The stick is reliable an I never leave home with out it.

Very nice, very sturdy....Could cause some serious damage if need be.

This thing is BA. My wife liked so much that she wanted too. But a new one that had not been tested on everything that I deemed not valuable in my joyful rampage after receiving it. It will scratch, but not break. Get a rubber boot for the bottom and walk with confidence.

i use it as a cane its sturdy & durable but i had to buy a rubber boot for the bottom cause wood floors, wet areas, & concrete are not your friends you will slip without a rubber boot

Have you ever been cornered by a swarm of infected wild hogs at dusk? Well this man has, and let me just say, if it wasn't for the impeccable design of this cane I would have been those swines supper. From the moment i removed it from the box, i could feel the history of generations of presumable irish alcoholics yielding such a divine tool to clout the British on the heads as they encroached their homes. Allow me to explain if ye will, me grandad told me an ole folk legend of a time he got into a fight over whose guiness was colder at a bar. The wild bastard me grandad was bopped the other fellow right in the tally wacker and the man schreetched a repulsive sound and ran back to his cottage where he was never seen again. I now possess my grandads old shillelagh and can feel the same quality in the bud k one. Thanks bud K you strange childlike adults never let me down!

I received my shillelagh within a few days of order. Excellent cane, as I do use a cane when walking. Very durable and has enough heft to use for protection. Rubber tip is recommend. Thanks again BUDK, for another great product. God bless

I've had my shillelagh for 2 yes now been by my side everywhere I go. Many will stay clear of you and won't be so fast to run up on you. I love mine I would recommend it to anyone.best money I ever spent.

i purchased this for my father for when he takes our dog for a walk. there's so many stray dogs out there we've both been approached aggressively at least 5 times this year alone and our neighborhood isnt exactly the safest and its getting worse. so i bought this as an inconspicuous self defense weapon. something he can take with him whenever he feels he may need to protect himself or our dog. its very light weight has a good balance to it my only criticism is there's no rubber boot for the bottom so there's very little traction if you did need more of a cane than a weapon. overall it made a great birthday gift, hopefully he'll never have to use it and hopefully if he ever needs a cane in the upcoming decades this will still be around to help in more ways than just a weapon.

These have been around for a while now, but the price is certainly a lot more inviting than it used to be. In our area, we have a wildlife problem. Deer you can scare away, but the foxes keep trying to eat our old dog, and we are often under cougar warning. One of these is the perfect solution. It's subtle enough to not stand out, functional as a cane or walking stick, and as a blunt instrument, effective as a deterrent to protect the ancient mutt from predators while he's taking care of his needs.

I love this stick. I was in a motorcycle accident and will be using a cane for some time it looks like. I didn't like the 'old man' canes, LOL. This cane is perfect. I've dropped it a couple of times and not even a blemish. I feel like it could work for self defense also, should I need! I am extremely happy with the purchase! I've been shopping at BUD K for many years and will be shopping here for many more!

This is massive I love it I feel very secure carrying it when I walk my dog. Good quality but lighter than it looks. Bud K has always sold great products.

Got this because my knee is having some issues. Works great, very sturdy, feels nice in my hand, also very good for smacking things(gave a dummy a few good swings). Only problem is on hardwood surfaces(so far) the end was a bit slippery. Just had to get a thing that slides on cane ends to add a better surface grip to it. Otherwise its perfect.

The stick is well made. I found difficulties with the ball head. It's a little too large for my hand and the ball is too slippery to control. Is there a way to make the ball more tacky? I think that would solve the problems I incurred.

Great stick overall the faux wood cap could be better it dents an scratches very easily probably disappointing for somebody looking for a visually nice walking stick other than that great buy

Good but for some reason mine was dripping water out of where the knob and the shaft meet I never exposed it to water in the 4 days I owned it

All in all a good piece for its purpose, I do wish that the advertising did not emphasize on the blackthorn as much as it did, it is only mentioned once that this is a polypropylene product, but uses the term blackthorn (implying that it is a wooden product) many times.
